Alex Johnston

Alex has worked at Spirit of 2012 since October 2013 to lead on the development of Spirit’s first events-based programme as part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.  We are the London 2012 legacy funder. Big events like the Olympics and Paralympics are powerful moments in time. We build sustainable social legacies from the inspiration of events, investing to improve how people feel about themselves, other people and their communities.  Over the last 10 years I’ve been been working with others in supporting the legacy of major events including the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Rio 2016 Olympics & Paralympics, Hull City of Culture 2017, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Jubilee.  We have become experts in harnessing the power of events. Specifically, we have learned about turning that power into practical and meaningful changes that cultivate thriving, interconnected communities that echo the resilience and unity sparked by those events
