Over the past 20 years, Amy Hopfinger has been a driving force behind some of the most ambitious and successful soccer events ever staged in the United States, setting the standard for how major domestic and international tournaments are strategically planned and delivered.
A longtime leader for women in sports and an advocate for advancing the game at every level, she currently serves as Chief Business & Strategy OEicer for the FIFA World Cup 2026, leading strategy, commercial operations, and key cross-functional business planning across the organization. As the first person hired by FIFA to help build its 2026 World Cup operations, Hopfinger has been central to shaping the tournament from its inception.
Before joining FIFA in 2022, Hopfinger spent 18 years with the U.S. Soccer Federation, where she helped set the standard for executing world-class events in American soccer.
She led the planning and delivery of 20–30 senior National Team matches each year, ranging from high-profile friendlies to major international tournaments, and was instrumental in transforming U.S. Soccer’s event operations from a modest internal function into a globally respected, revenue-driving enterprise.
As Vice President of Events and a Special Advisor to FIFA during the 2026 host city bidding process, she was one of the key figures behind the United Bid’s successful campaign to secure the tournament for the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Hopfinger was also one of the principal leaders of the 2016 Copa America Centenario, delivering a 32-match tournament across 10 markets that drew nearly 1.5 million fans, 100 million U.S. viewers, and $190 million in revenue, making it the most successful Copa America in history and the second highest-attended soccer tournament ever in the United States.
