Patrick Baumann, a Swiss national, was unanimously appointed by the FIBA Central Board as FIBA Secretary General in 2002.

Mr Baumann became a member of the International Olympic Committee in 2007 and is a member of various IOC Commissions, including the Evaluation Commission for the Olympic Games 2024

Mr Baumann is a member of the International Advisory Board of the World Academy of Sport, the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) and Council member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). He is also a member of the Executive Committee and the Foundation Board of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

He is the President of the 2020 Lausanne Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee and was elected President of GAISF, formerly SportAccord, in 2016 for the period 2016-2020 and President of SportAccord Convention in 2017.

He has been a basketball player, coach and referee in Switzerland and Italy. Mr Baumann, who speaks five languages, is married and has two children.
