Joanne Deponio

Position: Host City Project Lead for UEFA EURO 2020 (Glasgow)

Joanne is currently the Host City Project Lead for UEFA EURO 2020 (Glasgow). As the Senior Responsible Officer, Joanne provides leadership across all aspects of strategic planning and operational delivery, working with multi-agency and international partners to ensure world class delivery of the Host City Project which includes the delivery of two major city centre Fan Zones.  

 

Joanne was previously the Head of Operations for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, leading the operational planning and delivery for this exciting new multi-sport event which brought together the existing European Championships for Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon with a new Golf Team Championships. The event attracted more than 8000 athletes, officials and media to Glasgow and Scotland reaching a TV audience of 1.4 billion. Joanne had direct responsibility for the sports programme, venues, transport, security, technology, broadcast, accommodation, safety, workforce, accreditation and the cultural festival.

 

Joanne has more than 20 years of professional experience delivering major international events in complex multi-agency event environments. With a proven track record in leading large multi-disciplinary teams in high pressure, dynamic events environments, Joanne works to maximise benefits for host cities and sports through a strong vision, designing robust project governance systems, creative issue resolution and effective stakeholder management.

 

Joanne has previously held positions at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2015 FIG World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and in local and national government organisations including EventScotland, Scotland’s national events agency.
