Marcel Ridyard

Position: Senior Associate, Sports and Leisure, AFL Architects

Marcel Ridyard is a Senior Associate for Sports & Leisure at AFL Architects. Over his career he has worked on major sporting complexes in addition to music, entertainment and conferencing facilities, elite training centres, healthcare, offices and academic institutions.  

As Lead Sport Architect, he recently led delivery of the 80,000 capacity Lusail Stadium and precinct overlay design on the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022. He also oversaw the production of Turkey’s bid to host UEFA Euro 2024 and is currently leading a team to upgrade Ataturk Olympic Stadium for the 2020 UEFA Champions’ League Final.  

Over the last few years he led teams to complete the 45k IAAF and FIFA-compliant stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games AIMAG 2017. In the UK, he was Lead Architect on the recently completed Bonus Arena, a 3500-capacity music, events and conferencing venue in Kingston upon Hull, and a legacy project for UK City of Culture 2017.
